Day 138: Moth Drawing

i got a call at work from one of the officers out in the field saying that they caught a moth. they emailed me a picture and i determined that it was local, so they could release the container the caught it on.

here's my rough drawing of the moth on the sticky-note i took the message on.

Day 137: Dragonfly-Slug Monster - The Art of Silliness Worksheet 4.24

having way too much fun with the Art of Silliness workshop i'm taking.  i'm a few days behind, so i'm not doing the worksheets in order.  this work sheet was from Friday last week, but i was on my cross country road trip, so i didn't get to complete it yet.

the instructions were to use the scribbles to create something.

i loved the big slant.  it looked like a slug.  there were nice looking "wings" above and i found some legs too.
and just like that...  i've created a funny little dragonfly-slug monster!

hahahaha...

Day 136: SketchBook leafhopper

Day 133: Happy Together Ladybug Couple Notecard

i'm leaving for San Francisco today, so again, i only did a quick bug craft today. basically the same as yesterday, but sightly different sticker and sentiment from the Stampin' Up happy everything stamp set inked in pink chalk.  these ladybug chipboard stickers are so cute i don't want to over do it with embellishments that will take away from their charm.

Day 132: Happy Everything Chipboard Ladybug Notecard

i'm packing for a road trip this weekend, so didn't want to spend a lot of time on my craft today.

i used a random ladybug chipboard sticker i got in a Swap-bot swap on plain white cardstock.  added the sentiment from the Stampin' Up happy everything stamp set inked in pink chalk.  cute, pretty and simple card i can use for any occasion.  awesome!

Day 131: Baby Praying Mantis Photograph

this is a picture i took on Saturday, so i guess my posts are out of order a little bit.

but i thought i would share my little discovery with you!  we were returning home from our family walk with the dog, and i looked up to see the roses.  there was a little wasp frantically running around on one of the bright pink petals.  i stood there and watched him for a bit, wondering what got him all upset... and then my eyes shifted a bit to the left and there was the little tiny praying mantis eating the other wasp.  i'm assuming that the wasp being eaten was the frantic wasp's mate.  how sad!

but the praying mantis seemed to be enjoying his meal.  he didn't mind me standing there staring at him too much.  he watched me with his little pin-point eyes...  but didn't run away.  he continued to much away at the wasp.  my husband ran inside and got the fancy camera with my macro lens so i could take better shots, but this is the pic i got with my iPhone.  not too bad, huh?

Day 127: With Sympathy Dragonfly Card

my supervisor's father-in-law passed away yesterday.  i thought it would be nice to make a card for him and his family from all of us at the office.

i inspired by another card from the Stampington "Take Ten" magazine.

IMG_8553

i didn't have a pretty scalloped punch, so i used the Stampin' Up decorative label punch.  at first, i tried it with the punch itself, but the dragonfly was too big, so i used the paper that i punched out.  the inverse looked nice, so i cut it to size and added that to the center of the card.  cut a piece of fancy blue tissue paper-like cardstock to a 1-inch strip and placed it to the top left of the card.  the dragonfly is a felt sticker i got in a Swap-bot swap.  it's attached with a glue dot.  sentiment is from Stampin' Up Teeny Tiny Wishes set and inked in black and punched out of plain white cardstock with the Stampin' Up word window punch (just to add a little more dimension.  added 3 self-adhesive silver rhinestones to the vertical paper piece (instead of the ribbon in the magazine).

i hope that my supervisor gets some comfort from the card and our words.

Day 126: Triple Circles Orange Butterfly Notecard

more inspiration from the Stampington "Take Ten" magazine.

fell in love this this design so i made my own version.

IMG_8551

punched out three large circles of scrap paper using the large circle punch (i think this one is the 2.5 inch circle from Stampin' Up).  stamped the butterfly from Tweety Jill's Butterflies & Nature's Wonders Stamps in Stampin' Pad tangerine tango on the Paper Trey Ink rustic cream cardstock.  sentiment is from Stampin' Up Teeny Tiny Wishes set and inked in black.  distressed the edges of the stamped circle with Paper Trey's vintage touch chai tea dye.

cut a strip of orange paper and attached it toward the bottom of the card.  added dots and dashed lines to the edges of the strip to give it more character.  then added two grey brads to accent.

the circles are stagged with the stamped image in the front and the sentiment in-line and parallel to the top edge of the orange paper strip.

it's a very wam card i can use for any occasion.  :)

Day 126: Triple Circles Orange Butterfly Notecard

Day 125: Pink Scalloped Happy Birthday Butterfly Card

this card is similar to yesterday's pink card.  just different sentiment and i added a flower to the card.

Day 125: Pink Scalloped Happy Birthday Butterfly Card

i stamped everything in shades of Stampin' Pad pink (regal rose and melon mambo). the sentiment is from my beloved Stampin' Up happy everything set and the butterfly is from the Stampin' Up Butterfly Prints clear stamp set. the flower is from the Stampin' Up Fabulous Florets clear stamp set.

Day 124: Pink Scalloped Happy Everything Butterfly Card

a bit behind on posting... but i have been completing these daily.

i was going through my random stash and found a couple of pretty pink scallope-edged flate notecards with matching envelopes.  i used the for 2 days in a row.  saves me from picking out and cutting paper!

Day 124: Pink Scalloped Happy Everything Butterfly Card

i stamped everything in shades of Stampin' Pad pink (regal rose and melon mambo).  the sentiment is from my beloved Stampin' Up happy everything set and the butterfly is from the Stampin' Up Butterfly Prints clear stamp set.

i centered everything assuming that the message / note will be written on the back.

Day 123: Pink Ladybug Love Bugs Notecard

Day 123: Pink Ladybug Love Bugs Notecard

another CAS notecard using stuff i've received in a Swap-bot swap.
got a couple of cute little pink foam ladybugs in a pink embellishment swap...
added them to the white cardstock and stamped a little LOVE BUG sentiment from the Clear Art Stamps Bugs Life set inked with my Stampin' Pad in melon mambo.

Day 122: Blue Butterfly Mother's Day Card

i'm a bit behind on blogging since Blogger was down yesterday.

and... this is a late mother's day card for my husband's grandma. he didn't request one for her, so i didn't think of it initally. but she'll get a little surprise in the mail next week if i can get him to write and sent it out!

Day 122: Blue Butterfly Mother's Day Card

it's a simple card all stamped in different shades of blue.
the sentiment is again from the Stampin' Up Teeny Tiny Wishes set in black.  i punched it out with the Stampin' Up Word Window Punch punch and layered it on top of light blue cardstock that i punched using the Stampin' Up modern label punch.  i placed the sentiment right in the middle of the card.

all the other stamps i used are from Tweety Jill's Butterflies & Nature's Wonders Stamps and Design Elements Stamps.  the inks are all Stampin' Up (marina mist, baja breeze, and tempting turquoise).

Day 121: CAS Bee "thinking of you" Notecard

Day 121: CAS Bee "thinking of you" Notecard

super quick and easy notecard! used a couple of Stampin' Up stickers i got from a Swap-bot swap for this "clean and simple" (CAS) card.
the sentiment is from the Stampin' Up Teeny Tiny Wishes set and is inked in black.

Day 120: Butterfly Prints ATC

used my new Stampin' Up Butterfly Prints clear stamp set and matching butterfly paper punch to create a simple ATC for the "YOUR Favorite Themes ATC!!" Swap-bot swap.  my partner requested "butterflies" to my delight, so here's the pretty ATC i made for her.

Day 120: Butterfly Prints ATC

i cut the Paper Trey Ink rustic cream cardstock to 2.5 x 3.5 inch size and distressed the edges with Paper Trey's vintage touch chamomile tea dye.  i stamped the sentiment from the Stampin' Up Butterfly Prints clear stamp set in the lower right corner in black.  stamped the butterflies on the card in Stampin' pad Real Red, Regal Rose, and Melon Mambo.  i also stamped them on a scrap piece of the rustic cream cardstock and punched them out using the Stampin' Up Butterfly paper punch, then distressed the edges of the punched butterflies.  added a zots small glue dot to the middle (of the backs) of the butterflies and layered them over the matching images on the card.  then i added adhesive bling to the middle of the butterflies making each one different (one each of red rhinestone, pink pearl, and white pearl).  then added some silver rhinestones below the sentiment to balance it all out.  i pulled up the wings of the butterflies to give it more character.  very pretty and cute.

Day 119: Bee-Love Thank You Card

using a couple of the same stamp sets as the Mother's Day Butterfly Card i made earlier this week, i added a Stampin' Up bee embellishment that i recieved in a Swap-bot swap, and created a clean and simple thank you card.

SCAN0124

i cut a plain white 8.5 x 11 inch card stock in half and folded it lengthwise.  the hydrangea flower is stamped just to the right of the middle of the card.  the flower is from the Stampin' Up hostess Because I care set and is inked with marina mist (for the blooms) and old olive (for the leaves).  i stamped the "thank you" from the Stampin' Up Teeny Tiny Wishes set in black.  the bee and vine border are stickers from Stampin' Up.

Day 118: Blue Butterfly Birthday Card

my friend, Charlotte's birthday is coming up soon, so i made her a card.

Day 118: Blue Butterfly Birthday Card

i used a pretty blue butterfly embellishment i got in a grab-bag from Scarlet Lime.
the sentiment is from Stampin' Up's happy everything set and was inked in stampin' up's marina mist.
the top and bottom borders are Japanese paper tape i picked up today from Paper Pastries at Unique LA.   i want to go and buy more stuff tomorrow, too! hahah...  i already spent too much money at all the local merchants...  we'll see if i make my way over there again and find any other wonderful gems, or i can control myself and go to church instead.

anyway, i made a nice card today. :)

Day 117: Mother's Day Butterfly Card

Sunday is Mother's Day!  don't forget to call your mom!

and, yes, i'm late in making my card, because i have to mail it to my mom in Hawaii.  it's okay.  she'll understand.  i'm always late!  she forgives me because i remember to call. :)

Day 117: Mother's Day Butterfly Card

and, she'll forgive me because i made her a card this year instead of going out and buying one.

to make mom's card, i cut a plain white 8.5 x 11 inch card stock in half and folded it lengthwise.  the hydrangea flower is stamped right in the middle of the card.  the flower is from the Stampin' Up hostess Because I care set and is inked with marina mist (for the blooms) and old olive (for the leaves).  the butterfly is from the Stampin' Up clear stamp set, Nature Walk, and it's inked with tangerine tango.  the clear stamps work better when layering because it's so easy to see the placement.  very important with the butterfly being ON the flower.

i stamped the "happy mother's day" from the Stampin' Up Teeny Tiny Wishes set onto white cardstock and punched it out using the Stampin' Up modern label punch.  i layered it on top of green cardstock punched out with the Stampin' Up decorative label punch.  then i added a bit of bling (self adhesive rhinestones) to both the left and right sides of the sentiment.

added some blue and white gingham ribbon about 3/4 inch from the bottom.  then i layered some orange rick rack (which i adhered using my trusty Xyron sticker maker.  the sentiment got put on medium zots and placed on top of the ribbons.

i made two of these for both my moms. :)  i'm sure my husband's mother will love it too.

Happy Mother's Day!

Day 116: "Hi" Butterfly Paper Punched Notecard

i received my Stampin' Up order today!
so i decided to use my new butterfly paper punch, a few pretty scrap pieces of paper, and my simple "hi" stamp (that i got custom made online).

IMG_8521

i punched the butterflies out, adhered them to the card using small zots (glue dots) right in the center of the body, stamped "hi" in red ink in the corner, and added a bit of bling by sticking self-adhesive rhinestones to the centers of the butterflies.  i pulled the wings up to add a 3d feel.  ah, how i love the rule of 3s.

i found a random purple felt dragonfly embellishment, attached it to a square purple card stock, and stamped "smile" on the bottom in Stampin Pad Very Vanilla and over lapped it with black.

i sent the card with the matryoshka doll i made for my partner.
here she is:

OTT: purple

very purple!

Day 114: Pink Butterfly Button Notecard

IMG_8512

used another of the pretty Stampington "take ten" magazine notecards as my inspiration.

instead of black and white, i did it in pink.  i don't really like pink, but i guess i'm learning to appreciate it more and more in my old age. hahah...

stamped the random butterfly image (got this stamp ages ago in Hawaii) on creme cardstock, then layered it over a bright pink cardstock square.

edged the left and top sides with pink lace ribbon, attached the butterfly square to the bottom right corner, and accented with small random pink buttons.

quick and easy.  and very pretty in pink. :)

Day 113: Cute Snail Bookmark

made and sent to Swan this little bookmark for the Swap-bot swap, "Bookmark Swap" in the Book Lovers United group.

Day 113: Cute Snail Bookmark

i used the My Little Shoe Box Clear Stamp Green set.  the mushrooms are stamped in red, orange, and pink inks.  the snail is stamped in black and the tree in green.  they look different on the yellow card stock, but i think it's very cute.

Day 112: "What's the Buzz?" Grasshopper Notecard

IMG_8450

another day of inspiration from my handy Stampington "take ten" magazine.
i used the notecard on the left as my inspiration for the simple grasshopper notecard i made (on the right).  the ribbon is a random scrap and the stamps are from Crafty Secrets Clear Art Stamps' Bugs Life set.
