Day 8: Pinecone Bug

i found a pine cone while taking my dog for a walk this week.  thought it would make a nice little bug!

so i added legs (toothpicks) and antennas (sewing pins). no glue, so i can pull the pieces apart and save the pine cone for another project or put it in the compost bin! :)

Day 7: Grasshopper Haiku

i'm definitely not a poet, but i learned to write haikus in elementary school.  the first and third lines are five syllables and the second line is seven syllables.

Day 7: Grasshopper haiku

and here it is in PRINT if you can't read my messy handwriting.  hahaha...

Grasshopper haiku
little grasshopper
i look for you everyday
in the tree out front

it's a haiku for my little pet grasshopper that lives on the plumeria tree in the front yard.  i even drew his picture.   i wrote and drew on a piece of scrap paper i got in a Swap-bot swap package.

maybe tomorrow will be a picture of my little grasshopper friend. :)

Day 5: Paper Clip Spider

had some down time at work today.  found some paper clips on my desk... and hey!  spider!

sorry for the crappy photos, but i was using my iPhone camera.

here's what i started with:

Day 5: Paperclip spider

and how it came out after i bent, pulled, wrapped, and balanced the paper clips (using my hands and multitool)

Day 5: Paperclip spider

kinda fun. i should try to make more bugs with paper clips. it's a cheap material, and i can wrap it into different shapes and sizes... and it's a real challenge to get it to do what i want!

Day 3: Ladybug on a oak leaf necklace

i decided to take out my jewelry supplies to make something today.  i have a bunch of metal charms and findings... so here it is!  only took me a few minutes to make this one.  i think it's pretty cute!  don't you?

Day 2: Purple Spider Notecard

i used my Martha Stewart spider paper punch to make this notecard.  i embossed the purple cardstock with a Stampin' Up! Exclusive Design Textured Impressions Embossing Folder - Spider Web, touched the paper with a white ink stamp pad to color the web a little...  punched out a white spider, then a black glitter paper spider.  after i put it all together... here it is!

Day 1: Fold a bug

Welcome to my new crafty blog!

i'm inspired by a book i bought, "365: A Daily Creativity Journal: Make Something Every Day and Change Your Life!" by Noah Scalin.

i'm challenging myself to make a creepy crawly everyday for the next year!  yes, i know i'm not starting on January 1st, so it won't be a calendar year, but i figured if i start on Christmas eve, then i'll finish all 365 before Christmas Day next year!  it's a date i can remember. :)

so my first project is courteousy of a handmade Wreck This Journal that i had received from a Swap-bot swap last year.  it's covered in blue and orange duct tape.  that means it shouldn't fall apart, right?  so awesome!

Wreck this journal (handmade Swap-bot version)

i didn't take a picture of the notebook page before i tore it out and started folding, but using an origami pattern for dollar bills, i folded and folded... and here's how it turned out.

Fold this page into something

how do you like my notebook butterfly? :)  i had to squish it to the journal would close.

i added some color by patting the butterfly with a multicolored stamp pad.  the antennae are repurposed from a food wrapper i found laying around at work.  what do you think?

not too shabby or complicated for day 1...  if i can continue like this, then i should be able to finish, right?
